Kanaskat North (Phase 1) Salmon Habitat Acquisition Project
Project Description
- Located in the Middle Green River Subwatershed
- This project will acquire up to 75 acres of riverfront property including a remnant side channel
- Project also is known as Brunner Slough
- Built on by Kanaskat Phase 2 and Kanaskat Phase 3 projects
- Project will contribute to Salmon Habitat Plan project MG-2 (page 7-34)
Partners and Funding
- Led by King County supported by the WRIA 9 Forum
- $610,000 funded by SRFB (second round) and $95,000 from the King Conservation District

Importance for Salmon
- This area is used for spawning and rearing by threatened Chinook salmon
- The site is adjacent to large tracts of public land and will contribute to a key protected corridor
- A future phase could include restoration of the side channel connection to create more salmon habitat off the main channel of the Green River (as recommended in Salmon Habitat Plan project MG-2, page 7-34)
